Vimal Wakhlu is a seasoned leader in telecommunications and digital innovation, with more than four decades of experience, shaping India’s global technology footprint.
He retired as Chairman and Managing Director of Telecommunications Consultants India Ltd. (TCIL), where he guided the company’s international expansion and technology initiatives. He led the successful implementation of the Pan African e-Network Project, providing a platform for Tele education and Tele medicine services from India to 48 African nations, a brain child of India’s former president, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
A recognized voice in digital health, he is a Past President of the Telemedicine Society of India, where he has authored essays and delivered keynote addresses on the transformative role of AI, IoT, and emerging technologies in healthcare He is also an Ex-Board Member of ISfTeH (International Society for Telemedicine & e-Health).
Beyond healthcare, Wakhlu is actively engaged in international ICT forums, contributing to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), ITU-APT Foundation of India, Digital Communications India Forum on telecom, emerging technologies, Sustainability and Circular economy.
He has been participating in panel discussions on various fora, on a wide variety of subjects, including Education, Health, Disaster Management, Financial inclusion, Environment, Energy Management, Security including Cyber Security, Governance, Telecommunication and Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things etc. His specializes in leveraging technology for mitigating challenges faced by underprivileged people of developing nations.
Alongside his professional journey, Wakhlu has devoted more than four decades to the daily study and reflection of the Bhagavad Gita and related wisdom traditions. He has authored a book- ‘The Bhagavad Gita Decoded: The Self, The Mind And The Art of Simplified Living’ — the first in a planned series — presents a unique mind-map based summary of the Gita, offering timeless insights in a clear and visually engaging form. It represents both a culmination of his lifelong exploration and the beginning of many works to come including Vedic Sciences.
