Dr. Ramakrishnan Sitaraman holds a doctorate in microbiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (USA), and has a long-standing interest in history, comparative theology and the humanities. Besides English, he is proficient in Hindi and Tamil, and has a working knowledge of Sanskrit. Inspired by Herman Somers’ psychopathological analysis as described by Koenraad Elst, Ramakrishnan applied similar principles to the symptomology of fish-odor syndrome (trimethylaminuria) described in the epic Mahabharata, and provided independent confirmation of the essential historicity of Satyavati, a foundational character in the epic. Besides publishing what is perhaps the first-ever review of Koenraad Elst’s contributions to Hindu studies on an academic platform in 2023, he has published papers and delivered conference presentations on some topics in history such as periodization, iconoclasm and the Mosaic distinction. Most recently, he conducted an extensive dialogue with Koenraad Elst on various facets of the debate surrounding the origin and dispersal of Indo-European languages that is kindly hosted and disseminated on the Sangam Talks youtube channel by the Sarayu Foundation.
