Avatans Kumar is an award-winning journalist, author, speaker, and linguist.
Avatans is a recipient of the California News Publishers Association and the San Francisco Press Club journalism awards.
Avatans is an alumnus of Jawaharlal Nehru University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he taught linguistics and Hindi as a foreign language. He also holds an MBA from Webster University and has worked in IT for several years.
Avatans is the curator of BluIOne Ink’s Gods in Exile, an anthology of short stories based on Meenakshi Jain’s book Flight of Deities and Rebirth of Temples. He has also contributed chapters in Westland Books’ Indian Renaissance: The Modi Decade and BlueOne Ink’s Padma Bharatis: Ordinary Indians Extraordinary Triumphs.
Avatans has also been involved in translating original English works into Hindi. Notable works include Prof. Subhash Kak and Ambassador Arun Sahu’s poetry collections प्रकाश और छाया का पथ and इग्वाना और अन्य कविताएँ respectively.
As President and Trustee, Avatans leads INDICA, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that is an institute for Indian Knowledge Systems.
अवतंस एक समीक्षक, स्तम्भकार, और कवि हैं। अवतंस के भाषा, संस्कृति, राजनीती, और भारतीय ज्ञान परम्परा से सम्बंधित लेख भारत और अमेरिका के जान-माने समाचारपत्रों और पत्रिकाओं में प्रायः प्रकाशित होते रहते हैं।
मूलतः पटना निवासी अवतंस की स्नातकोत्तर शिक्षा भारत के जवाहर लाल नेहरू विश्वविद्यालय और अमेरिका के यूनिवर्सिटी ऑफ़ इलिनॉय से हुई। अमेरिका में अवतंस ने कुछ वर्षों तक विश्वविद्यालय में हिंदी पढ़ाने का काम भी किया। सम्प्रति, बतौर ट्रस्टी अवतंस इंडिक अकैडमी की अमेरिकी शाखा इंडिका की देख-रेख और सञ्चालन का काम करते हैं।
अवतन्स को २०२३, २०२२ और २०२१ में San Francisco Press Club की तरफ़ से Journalistic Excellent Award से सम्मानित किया गया है। उनके द्वारा संयोजित ‘The Flight of Deities: An Anthology of Desecration & Devotion’ २०२३ में प्रकाशित हुई।
