Projit Kumar Palit

Projit Kumar Palit is working as a Head,professor and director of the Centre for Indological Studies, the Department of History, Assam University (a central university), Silchar, Assam. Prof. Palit has been a recipient of the Sanskriti Sanrakhak’ Award, 2022 and 2023, from Shri Bharatvarshiya Digamber Jain (T.S.) Mahasabha, New Delhi. Prof. Palit is working as a recipient of the Satyaamritam Award, Indian Society for Buddhist Studies, Jammu. He has published books such as Tribal Folk Songs in Tripura, History of Religion in Tripura, Manuscript and Manuscriptology in India, Religion and Literature: Indian Perspectives, Vivekananda and National Integration, The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna and its Relevance, The Manuscript and Indian Culture, Jainism and the Jaina Culture in India, and Hindu Religion and Ecology. He was also associated with the editorial work of Art Volume VII and Modern India Volume VIII of the Cultural Heritage of India (an Encyclopaedia of Culture History of India), the most prestigious publications of the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Kolkata. Palit is working as a member of the Society of MAKAIAS, Kolkata; editorial board member of the Journal of History Department, Utkal University, Orissa, and The Social Science Review; and member of the review committee of the Journal of Contemporary Voice of Dalit, SAGE Publications, Jadavpur University, West Bengal. He has published various research works on Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism, etc., in several journals of national and international repute. Under his supervision, 25 PhD research scholars and 13 M.Phil. scholars have completed their research. Along with attending national and international seminars and conferences, Prof. Palit has been engaged with the editorial boards of several international and national journals and publication houses as a member and reviewer. His areas of interest include the religious and cultural history of Northeast India, environmental history, indigenous medicine, Indian knowledge systems, Hindu, Jaina, and Buddhist studies, and art, coins, and inscriptions of Northeast India.
